Old-sightedness or Presbyopia

With increasing age, everyone’s eye lenses lose the ability to automatically focus sharply on objects at different distances. Every person with normal vision requires reading glass for activities at short distances from approximately age 45 onward.

Persons who are only a little nearsighted require corrective lenses (glasses or contact lenses) all of their lives for focusing on faraway objects. They do not require reading glasses for reading until they are very old, however. In order to read, all they have to do is take off their distance glasses.

If slight nearsightedness is corrected by a laser operation, it is possible to focus sharply on objects faraway. Presbyopia does occur with increasing age, however, make reading glasses a necessity.
